The NFL need not look far to see who the racists are. All they need to do is look in the mirror. Rush Limbaugh tried to be part of a group to buy the St. Louis Rams and he was run out of town due to racist comments attributed to him. The league folded to pressures from the likes of known race baiter Al Sharpton and others. The league didn’t care that the alleged racial remarks could not be verified and that many who charged these allegations offered apologies for doing so.

It brings me to the Rooney Rule. It was intended to give more minorities better opportunities of landing head coaching and front office jobs with teams in the NFL. It has become nothing more than a token system. This is what the Al Sharpton’s should be addressing if they really cared about making a difference when it comes to minority hirings and  not fabricated racial quotes attributed to Rush Limbaugh. But Al doesn’t care.

Week 16 in the NFL the Washington Redskins hosted the Dallas Cowboys. Cris Collinsworth brought up the fact that the Redskins had met their Rooney Rule requirement because they had already interviewed a minority. So the Redskins had their token interview because Mike Shannahan will most likely be the next coach of the Washington Redskins,even Al Michaels thought as much. The Rooney Rule fails minorities more than it helps them. It really is nothing more than an academic exercise.

Collinsworth made a comment that most people watching the game probably didn’t hear. He said the Rooney Rule has been good because it has given opportunities to minorities they normally wouldn’t get. Cris just told the entire NFL’s audience that the NFL is a racist entity.  According to Cris if this rule were not in place minorities would not get these wonderful opportunities and the fact that token interviews take place only confirm that the NFL has a problem when it comes to hiring minorities. Why would a league or any business need a ‘special rule’ if it didn’t have a problem with minority hiring in the first place?  What we know is the Rooney Rule is a joke. It is only in place to appease and every so often a minority is hired which the media makes a big deal about saying the rule works. Woo-hoo the system works, yea like that system Janet Napolitano claimed worked like clockwork on Christmas Day taking down the guy with the bomb in his drawers.
