A story that has gone quietly in the night mostly because all anyone is talking about is the Christmas Day underwear bomber is that President Obama signed an executive order amending Executive Order 12425. The original EO was issued by President Ronald Reagan that granted Interpol, the international policing agency diplomat status. The EO had 2 provisions, the first had to do with taxes and the second said they had to operate under oversight by US law enforcement, abide by US law and provide information when requested.
President Obama signed the amendment on December 17th that says property of foreign organizations be immune from search unless otherwise allowed and that Interpol records are beyond the reach of Freedom Of Information Act requests. Americans arrested by Interpol in America will not have access to information they normally would. So Obama has decided to grant a foreign agency with ‘above the law’ status and the question is, why?
