Fantasy Football WK 8

Last week I, yes even I make mistakes. I sat Tony Romo who had a big game and would have won me the week instead I started Kurt Warner and lost. Resident Evil now stands at 4-3 in fourth place. This week doesn’t look good as my opponent has Adrian Peterson and other great match-ups.

Game Of The Week-New York Giants @ Philadelphia Eagles. The Giants defense was exposed by the Saints two weeks ago and Arizona last week. This is always a tough match-up but I think the Giants troubles continue, Eagles 27-20.

Game That Is Weak-St. Louis Rams @ Detroit Lions. Combined records are 1-12 need I say more? Statistically the Rams may be the worst team in the NFL. Offense is dead last and the defense ranks 30th overall. Steven Jackson will finally score, matter of fact he will score twice but the Lions will win 31-24.

Upset Special-How can an upset come from a home team playing a team that’s .500? When that home team is 0-6 Tennessee Titans it is. The Titans had a much needed bye week after the thumping they took from the Patriots. I am not calling this upset because Vince Young is slated to start but I don’t think that highly of Jacksonville on the road in a divisional game. Titans 26-20.

Now Or Never-I think the only player to get mentioned in now or never that has turned things around is Steve Slaton although his fumbling problems continue. Marshawn Lynch missed several games early due to suspension and has done nothing since his return. He faces the Texans whose run defense is in the bottom third. The Bills will need to establish the run game and keep the ball away from Matt Schaub and high scoring Texans. Marshwan Lynch needs a big game or I say put Fred Jackson back in. Tim Hightower who I like because he is a versatile back needs to make this game against one of the worst run defenses a separation game from Beanie Wells. If he struggles he may find himself back in a similar role when Edgerrin James was the main back in Arizona. I am giving Matt Forte one last shot or its never going to happen. After watching Ryan Grant shred the Browns last week I see no reason why Matt Forte can’t post similar numbers. I really believe Jay Cutler is the reason Forte is struggling this year. Cutler doesn’t seem to fit and the offense has not had any flow. Frank Gore should have over 100 yards and at least a score against the Colts. If Gore produces another 40-60 yard game then one has to wonder if he is still injured? Even though he has played well and the only bright spot for the win-less Rams if Steven Jackson can’t get in the end zone this week against the Lions the he never will. Steve Smith of the Panthers goes up against the Cardinals pass defense that has allowed 10 passing touchdowns. If not this week Steve then never.

In The Huddle-Marion Barber should be fully healed from the quad injury that has slowed him and expect a big game from him as the Cowboys host the Seahawks. Seattle allows 4.3 yards per carry but yields on average just 99.3 rushing yards per game. However the Seahawks star linebacker Lofa Tatupu has had season ending surgery and that will make them more vulnerable to the run. Barber 130 all purpose yards and 1 score. Kevin Smith should have a big day against the lifeless Rams defense. Smith will do damage by both air and land in the area of 160 total yards and at least 2 scores maybe 3. Sticking with the Rams and Lions I see no reason why Steven Jackson won’t have 120 yards rushing and his first 2 touchdowns of the season. Both defenses are awful. The Packers will have to rely on Aaron Rodgers and his arm this as they play host to the Minnesota Vikings. In week 4 Rodgers had his best passing day of the season at Minnesota throwing for 384 yards 2 touchdowns and 1 int. Expect another big game as the Vikings will shut down Ryan Grant. Rodgers easy for 300 yards 3 scores. Antonio Gates will have a field day against the Raiders. Gates 10 grabs 120 yards 1 score.

On The Pine-Vincent Jackson. 2 words, Nnamdi Asomugha. Ray Rice going against a Denver defense that yields only 80 rushing yards a game and has only given up 2 rushing touchdowns. This game will be won by a field goal 16-13. Roddy White is too streaky for me. I don’t see him doing much against an improved Saints defense.

Notes-Is it me or do you get the feeling that John Gruden and Ron Jaworski don’t get along. Another thing on Gruden, he can’t say a bad thing about anyone. Every player, referee ,coach and owner are great at everything they do. Wish he could be somewhat critical. I used to like and root for Gruden but I think somewhere along the line he became too full of himself.

I think at some point in the season Michael Vick will have an impact for the Eagles. I think Vick would be very dangerous running the ‘Wildcat’ full-time. Imagine what a threat he would be both running and throwing?

Jim Zorn lost his play calling duties and now gets paid to do what exactly? I wish I had that gig. I watched him play color by numbers last week and felt embarrassed for him. We all know his headset wasn’t even plugged in.
