On October 6th a Muslim soccer team refused to play a match against a French gay soccer team, Paris Gay Foot. In an email response the Muslim team offered the following for canceling the match:
“Because of the principles of our team, which is a team of devout Muslims, we can’t play against you,”
“Our convictions are much more important than a simple football match.”
A spokesman for the team also apologized if anyone felt upset or hurt. Not good enough I guess. If you want to stand on your principles make sure they are politically correct.
Today the Muslim team Creteil Bebel was permanently banned from the French amateur league. The league issued this statement:
“It’s a permanent exclusion, they will never be reinstated,”
The league said the ban was put in place for:
“refusing the match on discriminatory grounds.”
Why is the Muslim team penalized for standing on their principles? Are they not allowed to have their own beliefs? Good thing for Creteil Bebel they are not in the United States because that type of talk would be considered a hate crime which comes with a 10 year federal prison sentence. Based on the response from the league couldn’t it then be possible to call any opposing view ‘discriminatory’ thus not allowing anyone to have principles? Would it be discrimination if a member of any team was found out to be gay and non gay team members then refuse to share locker/shower facilities?
